Police priorities are in the right place
DEAR EDITOR:
In the Wednesday, Oct. 27 DAILY EGYPTIAN [Local police focus on the wrong crimes], John Teresi criticized the Carbondale Police Department because he was burglarized, and no one has been captured for committing those crimes against him (as well as many others). He said focus should not be on underage drinking but rather on burglaries.
I have to say this is disgusting and extremely selfish. I had a friend who was 16 years old and died while drinking and driving a few years ago. I know it was his choice to drive, but how many other teens do you think do the same thing? Too many is how many!
I know that police do not enjoy the paperwork for DUIs or underage consumption because it is time consuming. Let me address you, Mr. Teresi, and ask which one of the following you would rather have?
A computer stolen from your house, or an underage drunk driving through your house and killing you or a friend? Get your priorities straight and watch what you type next time.
