Vote for party of people, not privilege
DEAR EDITOR:
Let's keep The American Dream alive. I remember the tough times during the Great Depression when it gave us hope that FDR would indeed rescue us. And in the dark days of World War II we found hope for "When the Boys Come Home Again" under his administration.
Roosevelt had capable cabinet officers committed to a better world. Vice-President Wallace saved family farms and defined America's future with writings such as "The Century of the Common Man". Social Security and other important programs to help people were developed.
Today the Dream is in tatters. We lose jobs, health care, pensions, and live in fear.
Abandoned government social programs will become commonplace as Bush's massive debts and giveaways to destructive corporate America bankrupt our country. Environmental standards are being abandoned.
We fall behind other nations in educational performance of our children and keep out needed skilled people from other lands. Essential scientific advisory councils have become useless channels for propaganda.
Bush's bullheadness is only part of the problem. Attorney General Ashcroft and Bush's tangle of intelligence agencies progressively invade our privacy. Do they make us any safer?
A culture of greed and deception by the Privilege Party has no rightful place in the White House. Help restore pride and hope and decency and peace to America with the People's Party and Kerry. We greatly need his demonstrated courage and good sense in adjusting to a changing world.
