Letter to the Editor:
In Josh Perschbacher's recent guest column titled, "Where are the Torney supporters now?" the claim was made that the campus community must work together to abolish the Student Conduct Code. I couldn't agree more and I commend Perschbacher for his insightful and well-researched reporting. Having a lawyer who is a member of the ACLU isn't enough.
Where is Torney's army of supporters?
Only 50 people came out to support Jessica Bustos' case. I only recognized 20 to 30 people who attended both hearings. Shame on you, fair weather liberals!
I agree with Mr. Perschbacher, the Student Conduct Code is no longer necessary; with the PATRIOT ACT we have much stronger tools that we can use to hunt down campus delinquents like Torney and smoke them out of their liberal holes.
Fewer than 1,000 students were kicked out of school last year; obviously the Student Conduct Code is not working to its full potential.
While I agree with Mr. Perschbacher's assessment of the problem, his left-leaning solutions go a little too far. It is clear that Mr. Perschbacher has a beef with the administration and doesn't trust Chancellor Wendler alone to do what is best for our campus.
Screaming for things like "checks and balances" and "rights" smacks of liberal propaganda; there are administrative committees for that. Mr. Perschbacher, along with this group of radicals, is obviously combative and inciting revolution. Lending support to fellow students, indeed! I am sure that the demonstration policy will have something to say about this.
I recommend Mr. Perschbacher join an intramural sport and a RSO, like student government, where he can make a real difference.
