Vandals are wrong
Dear Editor:
Reading Monday's article "Vandals spray paint 'Cubs' over Grinnell," made me very angry about the mentality of students here at SIUC. I am not a sports fan and therefore I am not writing from a fan perspective, but rather from a perspective of an ordinary student attending SIUC.
It is absolutely wrong, and in common terms senseless, to spray paint any building on campus. Such actions make the school look a lot less appealing not only to those who attend and live here, but also for prospective students. Obviously there are people here who do not appreciate the appearance of our campus and want to make it look like an inner-city neighborhood. There are plenty of other ways to show support for a sports team than making our neighborhood look so disgraceful.
I hope the SIUC Police Department will make an effort to find and prosecute those responsible. The University should take a close look at what happened and make an effort to prevent future occurrences of vandalism. Putting more uniformed officers throughout campus and making the penalties for those caught more stringent will make a good use of tuition money.
