"Yassin's killing is jusitified" inexcusable
Dear Editor:
This is in response to a guest column published on Friday, April 3 titled "Yassin's killing is justified." To say the article is far from the truth is an understatement.
Comparing Yassin to bin Laden is a pathetic attempt on his part to play on the American pain. It is a cheap shot to insinuate that Yassin and bin Laden have the same agenda. In this he thinks that the average American can't tell the difference between a guy who fights his occupiers, and a fanatic who is out there to spread fear and terror worldwide.
To argue that Sharon is not a terrorist is to argue that Hitler is not a criminal. Massacres such as deir Yassin, Bahr al Baqar, Sabra, Qana and Jenin are but a few examples of his crimes.
As far as I know, it was the Palestinian authority that accepted the road map without reservations. Israel did accept it, but with reservations on 11 of its 13 points. Moreover, the author claims that Israel went as far as accepting a Palestinian state. This is simply not true, Israel never publicly did, and right after accepting the road map, its leaders voted against such a state.
He thinks that killing Yassin will ultimately lead to peace. The up coming weeks will show that such argument is far away from reality. In my opinion, the stupid move of killing Yassin will lead the region to an unprecedented level of violence, no one knows how it will stop.
I was really shocked that the DE would publish such an article. The author clearly advocates and rallies for the killing of a nation's president. Yasser Arafat is a democratically elected president. A call to kill him is a call to kill all Palestinians. What should we expect next on DE pages, death threats?
