The insomniac procrastinator

Have you ever been so tired you couldn't sleep? I was up until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning working on a paper. There are three weeks left in the semester and for a true procrastinator, like myself, I decided it was time to start putting forth an effort. This paper could have easily taken me an hour to write but as I sat at my desk I glanced around my residence hall room and noticed more pressing matters.

I just couldn't write a successful paper without first cleaning my room. My cluttered room was blocking my creative flow, at least that's what I told myself.

"Why didn't I match my socks after they came out of the dryer?" I asked myself. All I know is precious seconds are wasted every morning as I try to find a sock mate. Lately I haven't even worried about my socks completely matching. They only have to half match for me. As long as they match in size and color, brand or texture isn't really a necessity. I can't

wear an ankle sock on the right foot and a knee high sock on the left- that would silly. But I have no qualms about wearing two different branded ankle socks. Should I? Quentin and Stacy from TLC's "What Not to Wear" aren't crouching behind the salad bar at Lentz waiting to jump out and harass my socks are they?

After that chore was completed I eagerly jumped back into my leopard print desk chair to start my paper. I soon realized I was hungry. "But I can't leave the building, I'm on RA duty until 7 a.m. and don't have a scrap of food in my room or any cash to order food." Thank god for Jimmy John's. They now take Debit Dawg. I only have ten dollars on my account and I should probably save it to do laundry but I was hungry. Plus, laundry can make the four hour drive home get washed and folded by the loving hands of my mom.

One Bootlegger's Club later I was back at my computer. I meant to put my hand on the computer mouse but somehow it fell onto my cell phone nearby. "Well, my phone's already in my hand I guess I'll just have to call everyone in my phone book, starting with "A." Glancing at the time I decided that wouldn't be such a good idea. Plus following my phone book would lead me to calling DPS, Dial-A-Nurse, the Counseling Center, and a host of others I didn't need to speak to.

Instead I just decided to call the ol' boyfriend. He's always awake. And what interesting conversation he has. I could talk to him for hours and I probably would have had he not had to go to work. "Darn! Now what? I may actually have to start my paper." I start to flip through the TV channels (it is of no coincident that my TV is located on my desk) and find the best show in the world. "Time for a "Comic View" break," I say and climb into bed to get really comfortable.

I finally got to my paper after attempting to wash my dishes. This was only an attempt because after the third plate I decided it would be easier if I just took them home with me over break and put them in the dishwasher.

How is it that you can find 900 things to do to keep yourself from doing the one thing you don't want to do? And why does TLC have cartoons on at 6 a.m.? What kids are up that early?

I finally completed the five page paper but as I laid down at 6 a.m. I thought to myself, "Now if I can just wake up for my 9:35 class to turn it in."
