America needs a
well-spoken president
DEAR EDITOR:
There has been a great deal of discussion recently about liberal disgust over the victory of George W. Bush in the recent election. I believe a reason for the animosity amongst the liberals stems from the importance of the election. More than just electing a president the election signaled a great ideological divide in the nation. George Bush says he is a uniter and not a divider. It is abundantly clear that there is a division in this nation.
Many people thought the nation wanted a change. But instead the nation allowed itself to be blinded by homophobia and a warped sense of patriotism. The nation is in the midst of war, and it is a war that seems to be evolved from nothingness. Contrary to popular opinion, there is no victory when it comes to war. There are just varying degrees of loss.
The bi-partisan form of government is a fallacy. Both houses of Congress are dominated by Republicans and George Bush will get to name a possible four Supreme Court justices. These facts are alarming to a lot of people.
The thing that I personally find alarming is the reasons why conservatives validate their approval of the president. People say he speaks like a common man. I do not trust a man who once referred to ex-vice president Al Gore's economic policy as "fuzzy math" or refers to terrorists as "evil doers".
More than speech is his legacy, in which he will be remembered for his idiocy and not for his policies. I personally feel confident in my intellectual capacity and feel offended that this nation supports someone who speaks in a remedial manner. I suppose it's like Morgan Freeman said in Seven, "The world is a good place and worth saving. I agree with the second part."
