Salukis' ability matched only by their class

Despite the larger than average crowds at SIU's home football games, I am disappointed that they haven't been even larger.

I've been watching Saluki football for over 40 years, and I feel this team and last year's are among the most exciting ones we've ever had. It's been twenty years since we've had an opportunity to see such a great SIU team, and who knows how long it'll be before we'll see another (although there appears to be enough returning talent for it to last a while).

This year's team is probably the most talented and deep one to ever play here. I think they're even good enough to be ranked in the I-A Division Poll.

But the thing that impresses me most is what a classy group of young men they are. There's no hot-dogging or taunting; even their celebrations are appropriately low key.

They just go about their business of destroying the opposition in a most professional manner, reflecting the personality of their coach and his fine staff. They really represent the University and region in style, and we should all take great pride in them. Win or lose - and they may not lose again - they are winners who deserve to have a full stadium see them play.

In addition, if you enjoy watching really good college football, come out and see this team; I guarantee they will entertain you royally. Let's pack the Mac for the playoff games, starting Nov. 27. Go Dawgs!
