Bush won: time to leave the country

Damion Campbell
editor@siu.edu

Ever since my extremely successful column, "if you want my opinion," I decided that I would go out on top and not try to repeat that success. However, I have to voice my opinion on the events of this week. Has the country gone mad? White people are using the "N" word to greet their black friends, blacks are eating mayonnaise, Hispanics are voting for a man who calls them "Hispanos" and McDonalds fries don't decompose.

I cannot believe the idiocy of the people in this country. The Republican Party has control of the Senate, House, and the Presidency. The United States is taking militaristic action outside her borders because of lies told by the party in power. Homosexuals and non-Christians are being persecuted. The Patriot Act allows government agents to take people from their homes and hold them without counsel or contact with their families. A new agency was created, Homeland Security, which can monitor your every move. All this sounds very familiar. There was a little organization that exhibited these same powers - they were called Nazis - and they did some pretty horrible stuff.

Now, the following sentence will be written at a third grade level so the Bush supporters can understand: Your actions on Tuesday make the country go bye-bye.

In the exit polls, voters identified Bush's opposition to gay marriage as a factor in their decision to vote for him. I can't understand this because it shows we are more interested in what Bob and Tom do in the bedroom than we are in the ability to find a job, receive health care, mend fences with our allies or even think about men and women dying in a country that never attacked us or had the means to do so.

Recent statistics show that of people who attend church weekly, 75 percent voted for Bush because of his character. Are these people on some sort of mind-altering substance?

Aside from the lunacy of this comment, there is no man's Bible, Koran, Torah, or any other religious text that says you will be condemned to hell because of your government.

Ohio went for Bush and it is the state that lost the most jobs under Bush's administration.

What was the logic there? Did they sit down and list the pros and cons? I can't find a job, I have no health coverage, I can't get a flu shot, my son died in Iraq, my daughter is in jail because of a pop up window with the word "jihad" in it, but at least there are no gays next door and I can buy an assault rifle now. The only reason I can figure for such lunacy is that the populace went on a three-day crack binge, woke up on Tuesday, did a little crystal meth and then went to vote.

I am not a person who believes we should let the rest of the world dictate our politics, but when the government makes decisions that our friends can't support, who is to blame? Is the world wrong, or are we wrong? In actuality, this makes no difference to me. Seventy percent of Americans don't have a passport (I do), and more than that can't speak a second language (I can, and a third too). So I say enjoy your choice. I'm moving to Germany, or Canada, or Cuba, or maybe East Timor - just away from here. I'll be back in 2008 when Hillary is President. May God, Allah, Buddha, Jimmy Dean sausage and Rap music have mercy on your souls.
