Concealed carry laws can work
Thomas O'Connor sophomore, computer science
Dear Editor:
I am writing a letter to respond to Alex Berezow's comments about concealed gun laws in the Oct. 30 edition of the Daily Egyptian.
He said he believes the only law to ever deter people from committing crimes is concealed carry laws. He writes his article as close-minded about the issue as he accuses the "Liberals" to be on the matter.
The trouble isn't trying to get Liberals to believe the evidence showing concealed laws work. I could sit here and write on and on about how much evidence is out there supporting other ways that lower crime rates, especially since I consider myself a Liberal, using Alex's definition.
I believe having a weapon designed to kill just to stop someone from using a weapon just continues a cycle that we need to stop in order to improve society all around.
The problem is getting close-minded people to understand there is the possibility for other options to work.
