Professors discuss impact of consumerism in India
International Forum presents a panel discussion titled, "Toys, Clothes and the WTO: How Globalization Affects Consumerism," from 3 until 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Ohio Room of the Student Center.
Sajal Lahiri, a Vandaveer professor in the Department of Economics, will be discussing the direct impact on consumerism and national economies. Jyotsna Kapur, an assistant professor in the School of Cinema and Photography, will address the issue of how consumer culture is changing the meaning of childhood in India. Kathryn Ward, a professor in the Department of Sociology, will elaborate on sweatshops in Bangladesh and their impact on women and children.
