Think before you write
Dear Editor:
I've read the DE for a decade. Can people who write for and to the DE actually THINK before writing, just for a change.
To Gina Fox:
You wasted your SIUC education to develop such a narrow-minded extremist political perspective. I can't find "liberal" defined as "sanctimonious blowhard who feels that it is the government's job to provide welfare, healthcare, ADC, Medicare, prescription drugs to all who ask, free of charge." Does that include hundreds who lost jobs at SIUC and in Murphysboro this year? Are corporate tax breaks not a form of welfare?
Your definition deems George Bush liberal. He made a mess in Iraq and wants the world to clean it up. I hope he cleans up his own mess, as a banner stating "Dubya is a 'sanctimonious blowhard who wants everything free of charge'" is difficult to write.
Anybody who abuses the system should face consequences. But to graduate from SIUC with those views is a disgrace to your instructors. It makes a mockery of the University's education policy and integrity.
To Grace Priddy:
Talent like yours is truly amazing; more than three years of non-stop filler must be a record. It's difficult for mere mortals to write a column in the DE, but you do it based on four words. Your powers make you omniscient. The sermon you missed made me aware that I'm responsible for my actions, nothing more, nothing less. No fire and brimstone, no Hell and damnation; that was left to your negativity.
Attend before condemning based on four words. You might learn something, become as open-minded as the worshippers, and write more than fluff. Blind faith of anything is dangerous, but it's a step above ignorance. Offer us a better philosophy. Happy smiley-face signs might bring us around to the "Priddy Cult of Blissful Arrogance."
To Daniel Canaley:
You attend the University of Illinois AND are passing on your wisdom to the ignorant mass at SIUC. We are so grateful! Your ultra-conservatism mirrors the ultra-liberalism you condemn. We all see flaws in opponents, but your suggestion that those you disagree with "keep rambling to yourself" stinks of self-righteous arrogance, a reflection of extreme political ideology. Is that your view of SIUC, or just its liberals? I challenge those who write in to think and act positive.
To Charles Madden:
A friend is raped and you blame her lifestyle, dress, etc., NOT the rapist. When did the Taliban move into town? She requires support, not male chauvinism.
This is supposed to be a center of learning. I challenge the DE writers, columnists and readers to THINK BEFORE YOU WRITE. Your knowledge and views are important, as is your responsibility to develop and expand your mind. Question everything, not just the opposition. Keep an open mind to the views of others. You might develop a POSITIVE solution instead of perpetuating negativity, making your voice far more valuable to this community.
Thank you!
P.S. Evil Saddam had WMD. Why did he not use them? A positive answer is welcomed.
