Michael Brenner & DE Editorial Staff:
You might want to try opening your mind to the possibility that everyone who disagrees with you is "mindlessly waving a flag" or a "tool of ignorance." Maybe, just maybe, they disagree with you because you are wrong.
You started off your sanctimonious judgments by stating that the term liberal was "a phrase that is usually muttered to anyone attempting to solve, shed light on, any problems instead of mindlessly waving a flag."
To me, the term liberal means sanctimonious blowhard who feels that it is the government's job to provide welfare, healthcare, ADC, Medicare, prescription drugs to all who ask, free of charge. The fact that some citizens don't agree with your views on the role government was designed to have doesn't make them mindless.
You asked some very important questions; let us address those, shall we?
Why can't our army find weapons of mass destruction when it was "used as the primary reason for the war"? The primary reason for the war was very clear: Iraq had stopped allowing inspections in accordance with treaties THEY had signed in 1991. After thumbing his nose at the world community and the U.S., Saddam Hussein was given six months after throwing out the last of the inspectors to change his course. He chose not to.
Is our nation "isolated" from the rest of the world over this? Be serious, man; every country in the world wants to sell to us, buy our goods, and their citizens are all coming here to be free. I just don't feel that isolated, Michael.
The PATRIOT Act is intrusive and "denies us our individual liberties," according to Michael. Please list ONE person or group that has wrongly been targeted by the PATRIOT Act. List one individual's liberties that have been wrongly taken away. The fact of the matter is, the government still must take their case before a judge and be granted permission for wire taps, etc, and make a case for the threat BEFORE they can tap anyone's phone or computer. Lighten up, Michael. Unless you have some provable Taliban ties you are hiding, you are otherwise safe.
"Why have we not found Osama Bin Laden?" He is either dead or so far removed from any public places that he has become a "non-entity." Score one for the administration.
I agree with you that North Korea should be very high up on our list of rogue countries that should be watched closely and brought into compliance with treaties they have signed. We can all thank Mr. Clinton for the technology given to the North Koreans enabling them to threaten us today. I only hope that they, too, got a free weekend in the Lincoln bedroom for their donations.
As to why we support Israel, that question is just too simple: they are the only stable force in the Middle East and the only country that allows its citizens similar personal freedoms like the United States.
So as you can see, those who disagree with you did in fact get your message; we simply think that your message is wrong. Someday, when you grow a bit older, actually have a mortgage, children and a permanent job, you may just find that your attitudes will change a bit. When you discover that the wonderful sounding "free prescription drugs for seniors" is going to come out of the working family's pockets, it begins to not sound quite so wonderful.
