Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
Where were you when the lights went out in the great Northeast blackout of 2003?
The power grid blacked out, and 30 million people suffered.
The way to stop this from happening here is to build mine-to-mouth power grids to stop future blackouts.
For more than two years, the state of Illinois has had mine-to-mouth grants and loans to start a new 21st century clean coal technology. Cut all the government red tape for the mine-to-mouth process that will mean more jobs, which will solve the five billion deficits in the state of Illinois!
The power companies need to invest in the mine-to-mouth process. The great change is that the coal won‚t be transported in trains to the power plants, but transformed to electricity at the top of the coalmines to go to the power plants through the power grid system.
For more than 150 years, the coal mines and the railroads have had a sweetheart contract to move the coal to different locations. This 19th and 20th century plan doesn‚t work for the 21st century visionary plan. Without a vision, the people perish!
The marriage between mine-to-mouth technology, power plant investments and the state of Illinois help is a revolutionary concept!
Also, the federal government has to be behind the mine-to-mouth process for it to work. The federal government needs to help the state of Illinois with more money for the mine to mouth process.
The power grid system is 70 years old and needs to be fixed now.
The 21st century coal miner doesn‚t owe his soul to the company store anymore.
George Culley,
Pinckneyville
