Blagojevich will visit Carterville today

Gov. Rod Blagojevich is scheduled to sign a bill at the University's Coal Development Park in Carterville at 1 p.m. today.

The bill will create the Illinois Coal Mining and Electric Generation Act, which will provide partial financing for building new electric generating facilities in Illinois.

The bill will also ensure that the new facilities will fall under the Illinois Coal Development Board's promotion of environmentally responsible uses of coal.

Spokesmen for the governor said he could have time to meet people and survey the University's coal research projects.
