Reasons for war are plenty
Dear Editor:
As the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom seems to be getting closer to the end, I‚d like to think a time of rational thought will also be upon us. It seems, though, that the people I have encountered who are against the war base their decision solely off emotion, rather than the facts. Please, don't let an unreachable Utopian world be the reason behind your "anti-war" stance. One common argument against the current Iraq conflict is that thousands of Iraqis will be killed. But when you look at the facts, you realize a few things. First, as much as some people do not want to accept it, U.S. soldiers do not just go around shooting whatever moves. This is a strategic battle, with civilized human beings running the show. Also, don't say you are humanitarians when you neglect this: Last year alone, 100,000 children under the age of 5 died of malnutrition because the money from the UN Oil for Food plan that was SUPPOSED to go to civilians went to Saddam Hussein's palaces and yachts on the Tigris. Anyone with half a brain knows we will never kill as many Iraqis as Saddam Hussein will if he remains in power. I ask you, whether you be pro-war or anti-war, to at least acknowledge the facts. Neither you nor I know half of what is going on over there; we only know what the media allow us to know. Trust in your government and your country to make the right decision. I know there are problems with our system, but when it is all said and done, given the information that our government has, that they are doing what is best for our country. God Bless America, Iraq, and everywhere else in the world.
