Daily EgyptianIn the fall, four new professors and a new department chair will join the Administration of Justice department.
Vince Webb will be the new chair of the Administration of Justice department and will start Monday. Before coming to SIUC, Webb taught as a professor of criminal justice and criminology at Arizona State University.
"He brings with him a rich experience of having built and directed administration of justice programs at other universities," College of Liberal Arts Dean Shirley Clay Scott said.
Assistant professor George Burruss said Webb has a reputation as an outstanding researcher and will be an asset to the department.
"Everyone is really excited about the potential we have with the new faculty," Burruss said.
Burruss said the students would benefit by having more quality teachers in the classroom.
Todd Armstrong, one of the incoming faculty members and an assistant professor, said the number of young faculty and the quality of the faculty in the department were part of what attracted him to SIUC.
"It is a good department and I am happy to be a part of it," he said.
Armstrong said three of the new faculty came from the same university and department - he, his wife and Vince Webb all came from Arizona State University.
Associate professor Gaylene Armstrong and associate professor Matt Giblin are also joining the faculty in the fall.
Giblin has previously taught at the University of Alaska at Anchorage and York College.
Associate professor Joe Schafer said Martha Henderson formerly taught at SIUC and is returning this fall after working for the Ohio Department of Corrections.
"The new department chair and the new faculty will help us to do more than we are already doing," Schafer said.
Scott said the new faculty would help make the department stronger and allow it to develop more research opportunities.
