The Eurma C. Hayes Childcare Center review panel's report on the feasibility to continue the city's operation of the center will be made available to the public Friday as part of the City Council agenda.
The report will be available to the public Friday, and anyone wishing to view the panel's recommendation can go to the Carbondale Civic Center or access it on the City Council agenda link at www.ci.carbondale.il.us.
The review panel was created in response to public concern when the question of whether the city could afford to keep the childcare center open for the 2005 fiscal year was addressed Feb. 17 at a City Council meeting
The city's estimated cost for running the facility in 2005 was more than $363,000.
In addition to the review panel, the city has also been receiving proposals on private entities willing to continue to offer daycare services in the building. In return, the city would allow daycare to operate in the building rent-free.
Carbondale Assistant City Manager Don Monty said the city has received four proposals and has been reviewing three of them carefully.
"We did receive proposals and we've been wittling them out," Monty said. "It will all come together at Tuesday's meeting."
One of the members of the review panel, John Holmes, praised Mayor Brad Cole for putting together a panel that works well.
"The group that the mayor selected was a very good group," Holmes said. "All worked very hard."
According to Holmes, the panel worked vigorously to come up with what they believe is a good proposal in the best interest of the city and the center.
"We came out with a report and recommendation that we could agree to unanimously," Holmes said.
The review and proposal made by the Eurma C. Hayes review panel was available to City Council members since July 9 and will be addressed at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
The reason the council received the report earlier was to allow them time to review the issues.
"The report was requested by me for the council and I wanted a chance for the council to review it before it became public," Cole said.
Cole also said while the report will be included in Friday's council agenda he could choose to release it earlier but has not made that decision yet.
