The Undergraduate Student Government held the final meeting of the semester Wednesday.
It was a familiar scene, as USG senators ran through old business and onto new. Members voted and passed a temporary amendment to the constitution, which allowed for a summer ad hoc.
The ad hoc, which is a temporary amendment to the USG constitution, was proposed in reaction to the 100 missing fee-allocation forms, which held requests from Registered Student Organizations for program funding. The amendment will to allow a summer committee the power to allocate funds for RSOs.
USG believes the amendment was necessary in order to provide adequate funding for summer organizations and programs. A six-member committee was approved and appointed to regulate summer finances. The ad hoc amendment will be in effect from June 15 through Oct. 15.
"This will put us back where we need to be," said USG President Neal Young. "We need to catch up before the new Senate in the fall."
He said the new senators positioned for fall semester will have less complications due to the ad hoc. Young is one of several members of the USG who will be graduating next week.
To celebrate the closing year, an awards ceremony celebrating outstanding senators and achievements took place after the meeting's adjournment. Young will be returning to SIUC as a graduate student and said he will be present to watch the progress of USG issues.
"I think that there is a lot of unfinished business, " Young said. "I look forward to, as a graduate student, seeing what happens at the University. I hope they continue to fight for what's right and defend our very fragile position at the University."
