Compost bin sale may lead to lower waste in the county
A one-day truckload sale of home compost bins is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Town Square southeast parking lot, located at the intersection of Main and Washington Streets. Bins will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a limit of five bins per person. Compost bins valued at $80 will be available for $20 each plus tax.
The Earth Machine brand compost bin, the largest selling composter in North America, will be featured at the sale. The bin is made from recycled plastic and features an 80-gallon capacity, snap-together assembly and a 10-year warranty.
The bin is also rodent-resistant, with a twist-lock lid and pegs to secure it to the ground.
"Home composting is a hands-on approach for residents to manage their yard wastes and certain food scraps, and the compost that is produced is beneficial to home gardens and potted plants," stated Bart Hagston, Jackson County recycling coordinator, in a Jackson County Health Department news release.
"By engaging residents to separate organic wastes and manage them at home, we can further achieve the County's waste reduction goals," Hagston said. For further information on the event, contact the Jackson County Health Department at 684-3143, ext. 128 or visit www.jchdonline.org and click on "Upcoming Events.''
