Man stabbed at Murphysboro residence
A Murphysboro man was reportedly stabbed at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence on North 8th Street in Murphysboro.
Michael McMahan, 33, received several severe lacerations and was transported to St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro. After he was stabilized, he was transported by helicopter to the intensive care unit at St. Louis University, where he was in stable condition Sunday afternoon.
Mark Ward, 36, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder in connection with the stabbing and is being held in the Jackson County Jail. Murphysboro police said Ward was immediately located and identified as a suspect, and he was arrested without incident.
The stabbing is not the first arrest for Ward, who has been charged with theft, reckless damage to property, and 16 counts of forgery in Jackson County since 1993.
Murphysboro police could not be reached for comments Sunday.
