SIU's Morris Is National POW (Benton Evening News). Southern Illinois senior wide receiver Bryce Morris was selected Monday as the Sports Network Special Teams National Player of the Week. This is the second-straight week that a Saluki has been named the national player of the week and the third time overall on the year.
Hairston Is Fourth SIU Alum To Play In World Series (Benton Evening News). Former Saluki baseball player Jerry Hairston, Jr. has become the fourth Southern Illinois alum to appear in the World Series, as he is playing with the New York Yankees against the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic. Hairston, Jr., who played for the Salukis from 1996-97, joins Jim Dwyer, Steve Finley, and George Vukovich as the only SIU alumni to play in the Fall Classic.
