Hairston still suspended indefinitely

Stetson Hairston's court trial is dragging along, and it looks like his suspension may do the same.

Despite the delay of Hairston and sophomore Mike Dale's trial, Hairston's status as being suspended indefinitely has not changed, the Daily Egyptian learned.

That does not necessarily mean he will be suspended until the Jan. 3 trial, but a more definitive decision is not expected in the near future.

Lowery is waiting on the judicial process before making a judgment, and that does not seem to have changed.

Without Hairston, SIU is starting senior Darren Brooks, sophomore Jamaal Tatum and sophomore Tony Young. Brooks and Tatum were expected to start, and Young may be the odd man out should Hairston eventually return.

Young, like Hairston, is known for his defense and was glued to his man all night Sunday, but struggled offensively. He hit only 1-of-9 from the field and 1-of-7 from behind the three-point line.

The trial's delay will not cost Dale, another guard, any additional games. He will be reinstated after the Nov. 21 game against Augustana.

Hairston and Dale are charged with criminal trespass to a residence, mob action and battery stemming from an incident this summer at Lewis Park Apartments. The two face up to seven years in prison if convicted on all three counts.
