Looks like he's fully recovered - The Daily Egyptian's Mike Bjorklund reported on the comeback of Saluki senior pitcher Jason Frasor. Frasor suffered an elbow injury while pitching in the Alaskan League and missed most of the 1998 season. Head coach Dan Callahan said if Frasor could stay healthy and maintain the velocity he showed as a sophomore (before the injury), there would be a chance Frasor could get drafted early. This spring, Frasor will be entering his third major league season pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays.

A perfect resume for 'The Surreal Life' - Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan arrived back from the Olympics to very different receptions, the Los Angeles Times reported. Kerrigan, who won the silver medal for figure skating was greeted with a ticker tape parade at Disney World, while Harding went home to Portland, Ore., to answer questions in connection with a Jan. 6 assault on Kerrigan. From her pornographic wedding night video being released against her wishes to being arrested for domestic battery, Harding has been involved in numerous off the ice problems. In recent years, Harding has resorted to celebrity boxing and even tried a professional boxing career to make money.

It had to be the shoes - Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos finally surrendered his presidency and fled to Guam after a four-day rebellion led by two top military leaders, United Press International reported. Mass demonstrations followed Marcos' tainted Feb. 7 election victory over Corazon Aquino, widow of slain opposition leader Benigno Aquino. During his 20-year administration, it's estimated Marcos embezzled more than $5 billion from the impoverished island nation. A search of the presidential palace found around 3,000 pairs of shoes owned by Marcos' wife Imelda.
I'm sensing a trend - Fashion Designs, located on 608 S. Illinois Ave., had their grand opening. Among the specials advertised were: Printed denim jeans with an "eye-popping assortment of florals, paisleys and other patterns" were $16.99; Forenza slim-fitting paisley print 100 percent cotton pants and oversized shirts "with a subtle sheen" were $14 and Merona Sport apparel with "fresh pastel colors" were $10-21.

Whatever you do, don't tell him to take a hike! - Nancy Baker of the Daily Egyptian reported on three students who were planning on hiking to Chicago for spring break to raise money for the United Services Organization. Jerry Sigmund, Jack Morris and Bill Holden's 320-mile trip was scheduled to begin on March 15 and the trio hoped to reach Chicago on March 24. Although the group was only able to raise $10 from a man in Bloomington, they were still optimistic. "We expect some contributions and hope we get some," Holden said.
Almost 40 years later, Holden would make national headlines for another walk for a good cause. Last year, "Wild Bill" Holden completed a 2,100-mile walk from Arizona to Wrigley Field and raised $250,000 to combat juvenile diabetes.
