Single of the week-female
Sarah Buesteton
Sarah Buesteton is a history major from Alton who truly loves working with children.
In fact, Sarah's last job was working as a counselor at Camp Ondessonk, a youth retreat located 45 minutes north of Carbondale in Ozark. The Christian youth camp was designed for children ages 9 to 15 to learn skills such as archery, marksmanship, swimming and horsemanship.
She said she learned a lot about herself by instructing the children, and she plans to use the knowledge she gained in her professional life.
Sarah looks forward to becoming a high school history teacher someday and working with the same type of kids she instructed at the camp.
"I really enjoy working with young people," she said.
While Sarah was a little tike, she found life growing up in a town of 31,000 could be pretty bland at times. Luckily for her, she had a brother to keep her entertained. Sarah said she and her big bro, Kyle, who is also an SIU student, are very close. He is always willing to help her out, no matter what problems she might have.
As far as relationships go, Sarah said men who try way too hard to impress her usually end up doing just the opposite. But men who have a sense of humor and can be themselves are always welcome to talk to her.
The type of person she is looking for should definitely have a terrific sense of humor.
"I love laughing, and being funny is a real good thing," Sarah said. "But then again, you have to know when to be serious."
This sometimes-serious freshman said she spends most of her time "doing nothing."
"I don't know where my time goes," Sarah said. "I'm a pretty laid back cat."
Sarah may be joking when she said she takes it easy, but this Sigma Kappa funnywoman loves to stretch her legs and get out and about. She usually hits up Gatsby's and Sidetracks when she feels the need to let loose. She said she craves spontaneity and it is very important in any relationship.
After a wild night on the town, Sarah enjoys taking a few days off - watching a movie or studying for her classes.
No matter what she's doing, this Alton native said she always "keeps it real, yo."
