JACKSON FOUNDATION FACES TROUBLE
Michael Jackson's children's foundation - set up "to break the cycle of neglect" - is in jeopardy because it neglected to file the required financial disclosure forms.
Heal the Kids, created in January 2001 by the King of Pop, has never reported its spending, payroll and fund-raising activities, said a spokesman for New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.
Spitzer's office sent a letter to Heal the Kids this month warning the charity to submit the information within 30 days or face fines of up to $1,000.
No phone number was available for the charity at its New York office. There was no immediate response to an e-mail sent to the charity's website.
TALE OF THE TAPES
Australian police have recovered reel-to-reel tapes apparently recorded by The Beatles and believed stolen from the band's studios in London more than three decades ago.
Detectives raided a home in western Sydney Friday and seized tape recordings of the albums "Abbey Road'' and "The Beatles,'' better known as "The White Album.'' They also confiscated album artwork, said police.
A preliminary examination of the tapes suggested they are either original studio recordings or professionally made copies, police said. They did not say how much the tapes are worth.
Detectives believe the recordings were stolen from the Abbey Road studios in 1969. A 27-year-old man was arrested at the house but was later released without charges.
Police have given the seized tapes to a musicologist to determine their authenticity.
The raid stemmed from a British investigation into a suspected piracy racket that led to the recovery of 500 tapes believed to be original Beatles recordings during a raid in Holland last month. Five people, three Britons and two Dutchmen, were arrested.
ADDING SPICE TO THE PLOT
Five men were charged Friday with plotting to kidnap Victoria Beckham, a.k.a the Spice Girls' Posh Spice, and wife of soccer star David Beckham.
They were arrested last November on suspicion of plotting the kidnapping and have been jailed ever since.
In November, the tabloid News of the World told police it had discovered a plot by a gang of Romanian and Albanian kidnappers to abduct the singer from her home north of London, using a chemical spray to sedate her.
They reportedly planned to seek a ransom of about $8 million.
