Illinois GOP names new party chairman

The Illinois Republican Party, recovering from recent scandals, chose Gary E. MacDougal as their new party chairman on Friday.

The position has been occupied by Deputy Chairman Dallas Ingemunson since former Chairman Lee A. Daniels resigned amid a federal review of the alleged use of legislative staff members for campaign work.

MacDougal now has the job of raising as much money as fast as possible for the party in an effort to stop a democratic sweep of the elections in November.
