Men's track finishes roller coaster season

If you looked at men's track and field this season, you might consider it a success. After all, the men's team sent three members to the NCAA Championships for the first time in over ten years.

SIU head coach Cameron Wright considered the season a success in that Jeff Young, Adam Judge, and Jaanus Uudmae qualified for the national championships. Also, school records were broken by Young in the indoor 60 meter hurdles and Judge in the indoor weight and outdoor hammer throw.

Although Wright was proud of these accomplishments, he was not entirely pleased with his team's overall performance.

"To be honest, the year was really a disappointing one for me as far as where we finished for [Missouri Valley] conference," Wright said.

Senior captain Dan Harrell agreed the team struggled with its performance overall.

"People would have good meets here and there," Harrell said. "But as a whole, it was difficult to put together a meet where everybody did well."

Besides the athletes qualifying for NCAA, Kellen Allen, Marvin Primo, and Kevin Mills had individual performances that placed in the top three. But the men's team only finished sixth in the MVC.

Wright has several expectations for next season.

"We would like to be in the top three next year in the conference," Wright said. "My main goal is to have a group of men who come out here and are a team who compete for each other as much as themselves."
