No alcohol at Sunset Concerts will mean no concerts

Dear Editor:

What Chancellor Wendler should know about disallowing alcohol at Turley Park Sunset Shows, is that he is virtually canceling the shows themselves. Sunset shows are first: a big cocktail party for students and the community, and second: a musical event. I've been to nearly every show for some years now, and I've seen it over and over. Hundreds of people talking amongst themselves, while the band's singer taps on the microphone saying, "hello, hello."

I've often said they should issue performers a little card which says they can expect to be somewhat ignored until they play some danceable covers, or maybe their last three songs. But the issue here is residents getting upset over litter, urination and rowdiness. This they have a right to do. So, if we have to cancel the alcohol, let's just admit that we're canceling the entire show, and go ahead and HAVE THEM ALL AT SHRYOCK! If the bands are feeling ignored at the high attendance shows, think how they're going to feel when the attendance approaches zero.
