State legislators questioning our productivity like the pot calling the kettle black

Dear Editor:

On the front page of Tuesday's Daily Egyptian, Illinois state senators reportedly have been inquiring about the productivity of our University. Quoting from the story: "They asked how many hours professors were spending in the classroom, if we were decreasing the number of sabbaticals - basically if we were cutting costs internally."

This started me wondering about the productivity of the state legislature. How many hours are they spending in session? Are they decreasing the number of perquisites that keep them informed and enhance their job performance? Basically: are they cutting costs internally?
