Police are investigating a report of shots fired Wednesday afternoon at Veach Short Stop gas station in east Carbondale.
Police said no one was injured but would not release further information, citing it is an ongoing investigation. Shortly before 3:30 p.m., officers on the scene taped off the area around the station, which is located at 1123 E. Walnut St., and laid evidence markers throughout the area.
Witnesses at the scene said they heard gunshots as they walked past the station and saw a man fire shots at another person who was standing across the lot.
Until the shots rang out, business continued at the station. Veach employee RayVaughn Lester of Carbondale said she worked uninterrupted in the back of the store until another employee told her shots were fired.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and did not release any suspect names or motives.
