Godfather's Pizza deliveryman victim of attempted robbery

Carbondale deliverymen might want to consider taking weapons with them while they are driving through town.

For the third time since Sunday evening, a Carbondale deliveryman was assaulted on a delivery.

A deliveryman for Godfather's Pizza reported to Carbondale Police that he was the victim of an attempted robbery at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at 1207 S. Wall St. The victim said he entered the building to deliver a pizza and discovered the apartment he had been called to was not there.

The deliveryman said the suspect came up nearby stairs and tried to grab the pizza from his hand. The Godfather's employee said he tried to hold onto the pizza, but the pie and the bag both fell to the ground.

At that point, the pizza driver said he and the suspect stared at each other for a few seconds before he punched his attacker in the eye. The suspect then ran from the building, and the deliveryman called the police.

The employee described his attacker as a black male who is 18 to 25 years old and six feet tall with a skinny build. He said the suspect had a goatee and was wearing a white T-shirt.

The attempted delivery robbery was the second incident of its kind on South Wall Street in as many days. A Quatro's deliveryman was beaten and robbed at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at 701 S. Wall St.

The Quatro's employee told police he was walking back to his car after a pizza delivery when two men stepped out from behind a van and sprayed him with mace. The two men demanded money from the deliveryman. When the victim tried to run, he was struck with a baseball bat. He told police the two suspects took his pizza money and wallet.

The victim described the suspects as two white males in their 20s who are about six feet tall and weigh between 180 pounds and 200 pounds. He said both men were wearing ski masks and dark clothing at the time of the attack.

Another assault of a delivery driver for an unknown restaurant occurred at 9:20 p.m. Sunday at 230 S. Hanseman St. Carbondale Police Officer Dan Reed previously said the driver went to a "bogus" delivery and was robbed by two men armed with handguns.

The victim described both suspects in the armed robbery as black males, both about 5-foot-10 with slender, muscular builds. They were both wearing items similar to bandana. The deliveryman said the two suspects took pizza and money.

Carbondale Police are not linking any of the three deliveryman assaults.
